If you’re looking for comfort food, and a welcoming ambiance, give The Valley a try. Located in Clifton Block 4, this restaurant is another addition to Karachi’s ever expanding food industry. With blue doors and white walls, the place fills you with a positive expectation the minute you walk through its entrance. Unlike most restaurants that are built in commercially busy areas, The Valley provides a slightly different experience as it’s in an enclosed house like space with garden seating, as well as indoor seating.

The service is fast and the customer care is excellent. You feel comfortable as soon as you’re seated on their comfy furniture. It’s perfect for groups but even if you go alone, you’ll find yourself happy enough. The best part about the environment is its gorgeous lighting that is perfect for photography. Unlike many restaurants, the music here won’t annoy you with its loud volume, and you won’t even have to depend on someone else’s taste as you can play your own tunes! Yes, that’s right. The Valley allows you to play something for yourself and others around you, because while you’re treating your taste buds, how about you treat your ears too?

Coming towards the food, The Valley offers a basic menu featuring several items. It’s pretty easy to decide what you want from the simple age-old dishes on the menu, as long as you’re not looking for new experiences.

    Supreme Chicken:

Topped with a creamy mushroom sauce, alongside a bed of fresh steamed vegetables, the fried chicken breast on this plate is juicy and filled with just the right flavors. The sauce weds the texture of the meat perfectly, while the mashed potatoes on the side simply melt in your mouth, which will soon be full of a lovely combination of flavors. We’d rate this dish 8/10!

    Lasagna Di Polo:

Everyone’s favorite pasta, a plate of Lasagna is something you’ll find on almost every restaurant table in Pakistan. The Chicken Lasagna tasted good and was enough to feed a hungry person. Served with a side of bread, the sauces in this fulfilling dish were great. Though it’s not something you’ve never had before its good value for money (PKR 755) and a lovely meal to share with friends.  Since the flavors did not particularly stand out, you could say that a lot of dishes could easily compete with this chicken lasagna. We’d rate this dish 7/10!

    Parmesan Pasta:

The quality of a restaurant’s food can be judged by the standard of their pasta. If a place knows how to deliver well on this dish, it can qualify as a good option for consideration. Cheese and Pasta are obviously best friends and The Valley is aware. These two main ingredients are paired well on this plate, and with the addition of black olives, mushrooms and capsicum, the pasta made for a wholesome meal. Unfortunately, priced at PKR 785, the dish wasn’t good value for money, and the serving size could have been bigger. We’d rate this dish 7.5/10!

Overall, The Valley is a good place to go with friends. It has enough parking space outside, and the location is accessible. You do have to climb down a couple of steps to enter the restaurant, and there is no wheelchair accommodation, so the wheelchair bound might have a very difficult time getting into the restaurant. The average cost per head is 1000-1500 PKR and the food takes around 7-10 minutes to arrive, which is just enough time for a quick selfie!

As the new year begins, let us also start anew. I’m delighted to extend, on behalf of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and in my own name, new year’s greeting and sincere wishes to YOULIN magazine’s staff and readers.

Only in hard times can courage and perseverance be manifested. Only with courage can we live to the fullest. 2020 was an extraordinary year. Confronted by the COVID-19 pandemic, China and Pakistan supported each other and took on the challenge in solidarity. The ironclad China-Pakistan friendship grew stronger as time went by. The China Pakistan Economic Corridor projects advanced steadily in difficult times, become a standard-bearer project of the Belt and Road Initiative in balancing pandemic prevention and project achievement. The handling capacity of the Gwadar Port has continued to rise and Afghanistan transit trade through the port has officially been launched. The Karakoram Highway Phase II upgrade project is fully open to traffic. The Lahore Orange Line project has been put into operation. The construction of Matiari-Lahore HVDC project was fully completed. A batch of green and clean energy projects, such as the Kohala and Azad Pattan hydropower plants have been substantially promoted. Development agreement for the Rashakai SEZ has been signed. The China-Pakistan Community of Shared Future has become closer and closer.

Reviewing the past and looking to the future, we are confident to write a brilliant new chapter. The year 2021 is the 100th birthday of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan. The 100-year journey of CPC surges forward with great momentum and China-Pakistan relationship has flourished in the past 70 years. Standing at a new historic point, China is willing to work together with Pakistan to further implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, connect the CPEC cooperation with the vision of the “Naya Pakistan”, promote the long-term development of the China-Pakistan All-weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership with love, dedication and commitment. Mohammad Ali Jinnah, the founding father of Pakistan said, “We are going through fire. The sunshine has yet to come.” Yes, Pakistan’s best days are ahead, China will stand with Pakistan firmly all the way.

YOULIN magazine is dedicated to promoting cultural exchanges between China and Pakistan and is a window for Pakistani friends to learn about China, especially the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. It is hoped that with the joint efforts of China and Pakistan, YOULIN can listen more to the voices of readers in China and Pakistan, better play its role as a bridge to promote more effectively people-to-people bond.

Last but not least, I would like to wish all the staff and readers of YOULIN a warm and prosper year in 2021.
