Sharing economy, online car-hailing, mobile payment, online food reservation and seat selection in high-speed rail, online appointment for doctor, self-service supermarket; things that didn’t previously exist, are now happening daily in Chinese people’s lives.
Story teller: Wu Bixia, a citizen of Baijia Zhuang Xili Community of Sanlitun Street, Chaoyang District, Beijing.
Last August, I went to Beijing Chaoyang Hospital to see a doctor before 8 am, as I feared that there would be a long and crowded line of people for registration. But I found there were no long queues in the clinic hall. A guide from the staff came to me, and told me that the hospital had 10 pre-registering channels, such as Beijing Medical WeChat, the hospital’s official WeChat, 114 phone and so on. With her help, I tried to register through the self-service machine. Step by step, with no difficulty, I completed the entire procedure, from selecting the department, payment, and taking registration number in less than a minute.
In the past, the patient needed to line up early in the morning, or even in the middle of the night at a hospital, only to get a registration number to see a doctor. But now, with the networking technology used in hospitals, online appointment has become convenient for patients, and it saves their time.

It was probably early in 2016, that online car-hailing came into my life. On that day, it was very cold, and I got off work late at night. So there was no bus or subway at that time. Then, I tried to use weChat for car-hailing. To my surprise, the car arrived and took me away within one minute.
Since then, online car-hailing has gradually become a part of my life. Once, I got off from the high-speed rail, and got on a taxi which I had hailed while still on the train. The taxi-driver was so kind that he gave me a bottle of water, which left me with a warm feel and a deeply impressed. From that day onwards, I have become a “fan” of online car-hailing.
Story teller: Zhang Zhanying, an employee of an oil and gas exploration company, Chengdu, Sichuan Province.
Travelling by train between cities is a daily thing for us engineers and technicians. A few years ago, the train speed was so slow, that it took more than 10 hours to travel from Chengdu to other cities of Sichuan. But now, slow-train has been replaced by bullet train, and high-speed rail train, thus our travelling has become faster and more convenient.
What impressed me deeply were food reservation and seat choice on the trains. After you buy a ticket, just call the customer service or use WeChat App to order food, or use 12306 website or mobile App to choose your seat and order food. Travelling with a comfortable seat and delicious food makes your trip quite joyful.
Story teller: Feng Chengqun, a construction worker of Beijing Construction Group.
I am 45 years old, and belong to Nanlouhou Village of Longyao County, Xingtai City, Hebei Province. I am an ordinary construction worker in Beijing and there are "Mobay" and "Xiao huangche”?little yellow bikes) near our working sites. These are called shared bikes and they are used by the workers here.
In Beijing, you can find shared bikes everywhere. Anyone can use them after scanning a QR code. He or she does not have to worry about whether it would be lost, or needs to be repaired, and it’s quite convenient as well. I often have to travel between different working sites, so share-bike service is my best means of transportation. Last spring festival I went for holiday to my hometown, and when I got off the train, I saw shared bikes there too. I scanned the code with my mobile phone, and rode one to my village. This means that wherever you go in China, you can scan a code and you will have a share bike to use.
Story teller: Yu Chunmei, a Bar manager of Garan Bar of Leshan City, Sichuan Province
People from all walks of life demand convenience and efficiency in their work. In fact, with social development, mobile payments and transactions are accepted and widely used by both businessmen and customers. Sometimes, mobile payment and transaction can help avoid unnecessary embarrassment.
One day, a couple of young lovers came to my bar. They had a good time and enjoyed themselves very much but when they were ready to leave, they found that they did not have enough cash to pay their bill. They felt rather embarrassed and the boy said he would go back home to get the money. Then, the cashier reminded them that they could use Wechat or Alipay system to pay, and the embarrassing problem was solved.
Story teller: A public servant of Changchun City, Jilin Province.
Although I have lived in Changchun for nearly 20 years, I still have poor road sense. This means that I am only familiar with the roads in my work and living areas. Beyond these, other sections of the city are very unfamiliar to me.
One day, when I came back home, my wife looked at me helplessly and asked me, “You lost your way to where I work today?” I was very embarrassed, because while I drove to her company that day, I went the wrong way and had to ask a taxi driver where I should turn. As it happened, the man taking that taxi was a colleague of my wife, and he told her about it and they laughed at me.
As the navigation system is used widely today, I am now learning how to use it and it has become my best road guide. It also helps me keep my distance from traffic jams, and saves my time.
