Karachi’s best Cheesesteak, nestled in a crispy Ciabatta bread at Springs Cafe
Tucked away above the Springs grocery store on Tipu Sultan Road, Springs Cafe is a hidden gem in Karachi’s bustling culinary scene. Its serene ambiance, minimalistic decor and thoughtfully curated menu make it an ideal spot for a relaxed meal. I visited for breakfast, eager to sample its offerings, and left thoroughly impressed, not just by the food but by the promise of more to come.
The cafe’s calm interior is a soothing departure from the city's clamor. Simple wooden tables, muted tones and soft lighting create a welcoming space that feels effortlessly chic. A digital screen displaying their lunch and dinner menus added a modern touch, teasing an array of enticing dishes that practically ensured my return. While the service was slightly on the slower side, the overall experience made up for the wait.
I kicked off my breakfast with a café latte and a cup of mix chai, both arriving with an inviting aroma. The latte was exceptional: rich, robust espresso mellowed by creamy steamed milk, topped with a delicate swirl of latte art. It was the kind of drink that feels like a warm hug in a cup, comforting and indulgent.
The mix chai, on the other hand, brought its own magic. A bold and earthy brew, perfectly spiced with hints of cardamom, it was a sip of tradition reimagined. The balance of milk and sweetness was flawless, making it the perfect complement to the latte. Starting the meal with these two distinct yet equally satisfying beverages set the tone for what was to come. For the mains, we opted for steak and eggs and the Turkish omelet, two dishes that showcased the cafe’s knack for nailing breakfast staples.
The steak and eggs were nothing short of phenomenal. The steak was cooked to perfection, a juicy medium-rare with a golden crust that locked in all the flavor. Paired with two fried eggs, their golden yolks creating a silky sauce when broken, this dish was indulgence on a plate. Crispy breakfast potatoes and a slice of buttered sourdough toast completed the ensemble, adding the perfect crunch and soak-up-the-yolk factor.
The Turkish omelet was a revelation, a lighter, herbaceous contrast to the steak. Fluffy and generously packed with sautéed vegetables and herbs, it brought a medley of flavors that felt vibrant yet comforting. Accompanied by herb-roasted potatoes and a refreshing side salad of crisp greens, cherry tomatoes and cucumber, it offered a balanced and wholesome option for those looking for something less heavy but equally satisfying.
The beverages paired with the mains were just as memorable. The peach iced tea was light and rejuvenating, with the natural sweetness of peaches perfectly balanced by a hint of citrus. It was the ideal choice to cleanse the palate between bites of the rich steak and eggs.
The basil mint margarita, however, stole the show. This herbal twist on the classic cocktail was an explosion of freshness. The tangy lime, smooth tequila and aromatic basil and mint created a refreshing drink that felt sophisticated and indulgent without being overpowering. It was the perfect accompaniment to the Turkish omelet, enhancing its lighter, herb-forward flavors.
To round off the meal, we indulged in the granola bowl with a strawberry smoothie base, a dish that looked almost too beautiful to eat. The smoothie base, made with ripe strawberries and a touch of honey, was velvety and vibrant, providing a refreshing foundation for the toppings. The granola was crunchy and nutty, with toasted oats, almonds, and coconut flakes adding layers of texture.
Seasonal fruits adorned the bowl in a rainbow of colors—juicy mango slices, tart kiwis and sweet blueberries and raspberries, all adding bursts of flavor. A light drizzle of honey and a sprinkling of shredded coconut tied everything together. It was a symphony of textures and tastes that ended the meal on a high note, leaving me feeling satisfied yet light.
At Rs. 8000 for two people, the meal wasn’t cheap, but it felt worth every rupee. The quality of the ingredients, the attention to detail, and the balanced flavors justified the price. While the service was on the slower side, the friendly staff and calming ambiance made the wait less noticeable.
As I lingered over the last sip of mix chai, I found myself glancing at the screen displaying the cafe’s lunch and dinner menus. From tantalizing pasta dishes to hearty mains, the options looked just as tempting as the breakfast I had just enjoyed.
Springs Cafe isn’t just a place for a meal, it’s a destination for food that feels like an experience. Whether you’re stopping by for a hearty breakfast, a midday catch-up over coffee, or a cozy dinner, this hidden gem has something for every occasion. The thoughtful balance of flavors, coupled with its serene setting, ensures that this won’t be my last visit.
For anyone in search of a calm yet elevated dining experience, Springs Cafe is the place to be. If breakfast is any indication, the rest of their menu promises an equally delightful journey through flavors, textures and impeccable presentation.
