In the past several years, big cities in China have been making efforts to promote green manufacturing, developing green industries and building eco-friendly cities, to get rid of the gray patches of urban areas and replace them with green coverage.
Eco-cities are the new type of cities that are established on the basis of coordinative development between society, economy and nature, in accordance with the principles of ecology, providing new production and living models with effective protection of environment and utilization of resources for sustainable development. Among others, the major contents of eco-city development are green production, which aims at maximally reducing or controlling the industrial impacts on the environment in the whole process of production, including designing, manufacturing, scraping and saving resources and energy, upgrading the efficiency of resource utilization and power consumption.
Many cities are vigorously carrying forward green manufacturing projects through the transformation of traditional manufacturing growth model from highly depending on resources consumption and high-cost elements input to resource-saving and environment-friendly industry, with cleaner and more efficient production process, low input and less consumption of resources, but high output.
As the biggest automobile making center, Chongqing Municipality has been pushing forward the industry transformation from traditional auto-vehicles to new energy, intelligent and shared autos with heavy equipment manufacturing becoming smarter, more intensive but with less energy consumption and waste emission.
As the first Made in China 2025 trial and demonstration city of China, Chongqing has a group of intelligent terminals, in which robot application, and Internet Plus manufacturing companies have emerged. For instance, 3D printing is a typical green production mode. With the most advanced 3D printing technology, only 100-gram of raw material is needed for one 100-gram complicated spare part, quicker and better.
Through promotion by Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, China has established a group of industrial and regional demonstration and influential green factories, industrial parks and supply chains. And in the future, more focus will be on sectors of machinery, manufacturing, electronics, chemicals and textiles, etc. to carry forward the ideas of green production and supply of high-end consumable green goods. China is able to meet the gradually increasing demands for green consumption of its people.
Developing the green industry, taking advantages of local eco-environment and in the meantime investing more capitals and using more advanced technologies for environment protection with the help of progressing economy, China is setting up new targets for urban construction and development to turn waters clean and mountains green.
The Liangjiang Gas Turbine Power Plant of China Huaneng Energy Group Co. Ltd is the first gas-steam joint circulation and cold, heat and power tri-generation clean energy station in Southwest China, with the imported “post-industrialization” design and reformed outlook, the traditional power plant has changed to a garden-factory. With tri-generation, at least 380,000 tons of coals could be saved compared to the general million-capacity coal fired unit, with far less emission of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides than national standard, almost zero emission of smoke and dust, and wasted water.
Located at the southwest of Zhejiang Province, an area with mountain ranges and beautiful sceneries, the Lishui prefecture is regarded as the crucial natural eco-shield for the province and even the whole East China. To protect the natural environment of Lishui, local authorities gave up the usual shortcut of “industrial progress”, and attached great importance to its development of eco-tourism, fine agriculture and pension and health care industry. The privileges of good eco-environment have been transformed to economic advantages and development opportunities, the green waters and mountains have become sources for economic profits i.e. the “golden and silver mountains.”
At present, the forest coverage of Lishui is over 80%, ranking as No.2 of China with best water environment and quality in Zhejiang, and No.1 for continuous 14 years in terms of its eco-environment assessment index.
