“Sacred Marks”, a collection of calligraphy and art installations painted in bright and shiny colours is being displayed at the Color Gallery here in Lahore. Two series of paintings are being exhibited, with a technique of recurrence in contemplation used by Shafaq Ahmad to paint calligraphy. Most of the work is in circles or geometric patterns depicting a journey into the spiritual being. One cannot discern scenery or a sketch but patterns of running streams and sunbeams are quite vivid in almost all of the paintings. Zahra David is the curator of this breathtaking work of art with people like Saleema Hashmi also gracing the place with their presence. The exhibition ends on January 17th.
