Radd is an ARY Digital drama produced by the ace production house iDream Entertainment. Directed by Ahmed Bhatti and scripted by Sanam Mehdi Zaryab, the cast of Radd includes Sheheryar Munawar Siddiqui, Hiba Bukhari, Arsalan Naseer, Nauman Aijaz, Asma Abbas, Nadia Afgan, Yasmin Peerzada, Dania Enwer and veteran actor Muhammad Ahmed.
The drama revolves around Eman (Hiba Bukhari), a fearless female lead dedicated to making a good living through her unwavering work ethic. Bukhari has portrayed the nuances of a strong and an independent woman with finesse. However, it is the portrayal of Shehryar Munawar that has captivated the audience. It is quite remarkable to see him in a role where he portrays a helpless character, as it is something we haven’t seen from him before. His performance as Salaar effectively captures the growth and transformation both in his character and the drama, which viewers have been eagerly anticipating. It is evident from the promos that the interference of Nauman Aijaz in Salaar’s life (Salaar’s maternal uncle) is bound to add an intriguing element to the storyline. Syed Muhammad Ahmed is portraying the father of the female lead, as a pious and open-minded father striving hard to see his daughters live a happy life.
Nauman Aijaz’s character has definitely brought glamour to the drama. Salaar’s mother (Shehryar Munawwar) was tragically killed by his father and step mother for her wealth, and to make matters worse, Salaar has been wrongly accused of being responsible for his mother’s death since he was a child. His childhood trauma and the scandals of his family have made him a timid person, but there’s hope that he will eventually discover his strength and courage to stand up against his family’s excesses.
I think Pakistani drama scripts shall never come out of the saas bahu (mother-in-law and daughter-in-law) and nand bhabhi (sister-in-law) rivalry. The trend continues in Radd. The drama explores the complex dynamics between Zain’s mother and his aunt, highlighting the jealousy and insecurity that arises due to the attachment to her only son. The drama delves into the power dynamics and hidden agendas at play, keeping the viewers at the edge of their seats. Though fascinating to see how these conspiracies shall shape the plot and add suspense to the storyline, but it’s true that viewers may find it predictable and reminiscent of older, more traditional dramas.
Arsalan Naseer’s role as Zain seems to have similarities with his previous roles, as it happened in the drama serial Neem. He was an extraordinarily nice partner in the beginning, but as the story unfolded, misunderstandings and other factors caused him to have a strained relationship with Eman. It seems that Eman and Zain will end up breaking, due to the conspiracies of Zain’s mother, and eventually Eman shall develop feelings for Salaar. That’s definitely an interesting twist to look forward to.
So, the major drawback is a familiar pattern that may not be interesting. However, despite the drawbacks, unlike some dramas that rely on the trope of love at first sight, Radd presents a more grounded approach to love and relationships. Along with it, highlighting the complexities and challenges that adults may face when dealing with difficult family dynamics. It sheds light on the fact that not all families are perfect and that some individuals may be harmed or pressured by their own relatives, like Salaar in Radd. However, the story is quite predictable and the plot unfolds with a charismatic yet foreseen scenes and romance. It appears from the Original Sound Track and promos that Eman and Salaar shall end up living a beautiful married life, and Zain shall become aware about his mother’s intrigues. Viewers are excited at seeing the chemistry of Sheheryar Munawar and Hiba Bukhari unfold.
