If you set foot outside of your home in Karachi to have some good food, you’d get so confused that you’d step back in and eat a bowl of noodles instead. There are just so many options available in the city of Karachi. The best part? There’s something here for everyone. Vegetarians can enjoy just as much as meat lovers, because eating out isn’t limited to carbs!
One of the many healthy restaurants in Karachi, is DHA’s famous Evergreen Foods. While the name goes perfectly well with the theme, the menu is also refreshing, allowing you to choose something other than that monotonous Pepperoni Pizza you always order. Located at Khayaban-e-Seher, Evergreen, hilariously stands next to Famous O’s Pizza. The outlook of the café is elegant and simple, but there’s no wheelchair accommodation. Upon entering the green door, the first things you see are the gourmet products on display, including protein supplements that you can purchase right off the counter. It’s dimly lit, but perfect for lunch, because the sunlight adds to the green interior and gives a wholesome vibe.
The menu is a little confusing for someone who knows nothing about healthy food items, but not to worry, as the staff is more than helpful with suggestions. We tried their Build-a-Bowl and Open Faced Best-o-Pesto Chicken Sandwich, based on their recommendations.
The Build-a-Bowl comes with plenty of choices, so you can always select your favorite things to add in a bowl and enjoy a messy but delicious lunch. We went for the Spicy Garlic Brown Rice as a base and the taste blended well with the other ingredients, such as cherry tomatoes and mushrooms. The serving size seemed small, but Evergreen knows its food, because it was so fulfilling that the portion was just enough to fill me up. The only reason why I wanted more was because it tasted that good. The presentation was exactly the way it’s supposed to be. The only thing I would add as a negative would be the price. While the food was lovely, it was quite highly priced, and cost around 500-600. I rate it 4/5.
The Pesto Sandwich is frankly a chicken lover’s dream. It consisted of Grilled Chicken, on top of toasted bread and Pesto Spread, garnished with Cherry Tomatoes, Basil, and Parmesan. The flavors came together in a pleasant manner, and the dish was also filling. Surprisingly so, the serving size was pretty good, unlike many restaurants which offer tiny portions for big prices. This dish was priced at about 800-1000 which was good value for money, based on the ingredients used and the overall quality. I give it 5/5.
We also ordered a Berry Smoothie, which I would not recommend, because it lacked flavor. We had to ask for extra honey and the staff was more than accommodating. Evergreen sure knows how to please its customers, and the staff made sure we were comfortable. With a per person average of 1000-2000 rupees, Evergreen is a bit high priced, but definitely delivers great quality for the money.
