The largest population of food lovers in Pakistan can probably be found in Karachi, especially if you’re looking for those who survive on meat and cheese! After countless recommendations and based on an excellent reputation for serving quality food, we headed to “Meat the Cheese” to find out what we’re missing out on.
Since the café is located in Bukhari Commercial, DHA, it can be slightly difficult to find for those not familiar with the area. Look out for Grotto Café, which sits right next it. The yellow and black exterior of Meat the Cheese is attractive enough to raise your expectations and invite you in. Valet parking is available, so you don’t have to worry about your ride. Unfortunately, the entrance is not wheelchair accessible. The interior is lovely, especially the wall behind their counter, which has several puns and witty quotes. There’s a fake grass frame on one wall, which serves as the perfect background for pictures. The furniture is comfortable, and the staff is very welcoming!
On being handed the rather short menu, we were impressed by how easy they’d made it to pick a dish. Due to the proper categorization, it took us no time to figure out what we wanted. We ordered the Aunt Margherita and Latino Jalapeno Pizzas, an Insanely Cheesy Burger, the Crack Pot Pie, and the Lasagna on a Roll.
Aunt Margherita was ordered with a lot of expectations, which it unfortunately failed to meet. It certainly did not pack enough quality for the price, and our cheese cravings weren’t satisfied either. While the cherry tomatoes, basil and mozzarella were lovely on their own, they somehow did not complement each other. We’ve had much better Margheritas so would rate it just 6/10.
The same cannot be said for the Latino Jalapeno, which promised a fulfilling taste and delivered. The grilled chicken, jalapenos, black olives, onions and mushrooms came together, with some generously drizzled parmesan and mozzarella. It’s safe to call this one a happy order, with a rating of 8/10.
The person who had ordered the Insanely Cheesy Burger commented that it was too much cheese for their taste, but if you like your burgers overpowered by cheese, you’ll enjoy munching on this one. The beef patty was tender and spicy, while the side of crispy onion rings added a crunch to the plate. We’d rate this 7/10.
The Lasagna on a Roll was a brilliant pick for cheese and chicken lovers. The lasagna basically consisted of a pasta roll swimming in a pool of cheese, and that too, perfectly toasted. The meat sauce and creamy white sauce complemented it incredibly well. We’d rate this 8/10.
The most anticipated dish, the Crack Pot Pie, was quite disappointing. It was the most recommended item on the menu but turned out to be average at best. The pie crust was chewy and not crispy as promised, the filling of cheese and chicken was quite bland, and the five spices provided with it were of little use in seasoning the pie. We would rate it 4/10.
Overall, the experience cost us 1200 PKR per person, which seemed overpriced because two of the dishes did not meet expectations. Considering that the food business in Karachi grows more competitive each day, Meat the Cheese will have to work hard to ensure they are able to deliver consistency with quality.

Kashmir & Palestine are examples of illegal occupation & continued Resistance to Repression! There are so many commonalities in Kashmir & Palestine: both under brutal military occupation of foreign powers, both are facing an indigenous, popular, spontaneous & widespread Resistance & Uprising, both are in violation of UN Resolutions which haven’t been implemented, both are witnessing an attempted change in the demographic balance, both are facing the use of rape as a weapon of war, both are testimony to double-standards & hypocrisy of Western powers on human rights & fundamental rights, and both conflicts have an element of racism and Islamophobia, while enduring peace, security and stability will remain elusive in both regions, South Asia & Middle East, until these issues are resolved in accordance with popular aspirations.
